Into the Word: June 2017
“God’s Urgent Call”
The call of God is His summons extended in the life of His creation. Our summer quarter lessons will help us to take an in-depth study of calls to service and ministry in the life of His people; it will provide examples from a chaotic time of the judges in the Old Testament.
Our first four lessons, with the theme “Called to Be Strong,” recall heroes such as Deborah and Barak who were called to drive Canaanite invaders from northern Israel, aided by God’s forces of nature. Next we study about Gideon who was asked to trust God’s power against the overwhelming numbers of the Midianites. The call of Jephthah illustrates how God could use even a person of flawed judgment, in this case to defeat the children of Ammon. His call to Samson’s parents reminds us how important parents are in shaping the character of future leaders.
In all these cases, those called to be strong were weak people who had to depend on the Lord’s strength to complete His work. These lessons will provide crucial principles that will hopefully lead us to depend on God for our own strength as we submit to His call for service.
We look forward to studying the word with you in Sunday School.
